Mighty Match

Human Performance at Turner Fitness Center presents an individual, quarterly functional fitness competition.

Mighty Matches occur every quarter and the titles for mightiest male and female on-peninsula are back up for grabs. 

Divisions
Tough | Intermediate Female, Intermediate Male
Mighty | Advanced Female, Advanced Male

The Mightiest (advanced) female and male as well as the Toughest (intermediate) male and female will be awarded.

Every workout in this quarter's Mighty Match features competition kettlebells.

Event 1: "The Need For Speed"

For Time (2:00 Cap)
6 Double Kettlebell Deadlifts
5 Double Kettlebell Deadlifts
4 Double Kettlebell Deadlifts
3 Double Kettlebell Deadlifts
2 Double Kettlebell Deadlifts
>> 1:00 AMRAP Single Jumps/Double Unders

Each set of double kettlebell deadlifts will ascend in weight as below. As soon as the speed ladder is completed or at the 2:00 minute mark, competitors enter directly into a one minute AMRAP (as many reps as possible) of single jumps/double unders.  

Double kettlebell ladder weight by division:
Intermediate Female (Tough) | 22kg >> 24kg >> 26kg >> 28kg >> 32kg
Intermediate Male (Tough) | 26kg >> 28kg >> 32kg >> 36kg >> 40kg
Advanced Female (Mighty) | 28kg >> 32kg >> 36kg >> 40kg >> 44kg
Advanced Male (Mighty) | 32kg >> 36kg >> 40kg >> 44kg >> 48kg

This event will have two scores, the time to complete the ladder and the total single jumps/double unders. 

Event 2: "Hey, Rocky!"

Competitors will have eight minutes to establish a maximum weight for the following single kettlebell complex: 

9 Single Arm KB Hang Cleans + 6 Single Arm KB Front Squats + 3 Single Arm KB Shoulder to Overhead

The complex must be completed on both arms using the same weight for the weight to be scored as successful. Competitors must complete the complex unbroken per side, but may rest as needed between sides/arms. 

Event 3: "Groundhog Day"

This event is a triplet (comprised of three movements). Intermediate athletes need to be able to do supine ring and/or straight bar rows. Advanced competitors need to be able to do chin-over-bar pull ups (strict, kipping and butterfly are all acceptable). Further details for this event will be released on competition day, but note the hardest movements have been announced as above.

Participants will check in prior to 8 a.m. for the athlete safety brief, with the first event beginning shortly thereafter at 8:30 a.m.

Registration Information

Register online or at any USAG Humphreys Fitness Center before Monday, February 22 at Noon. Registration is limited to 24 total participants. Participants must be 18 years or older (17 if Active Duty).
