LIBRARY EVENTS & PROGRAMS
MEET THE STAFF
How Long have you worked at Duke Memorial Library?
Almost four and half years since October 2019. I previously served as the Library Director at White Sands Missile Range in NM and the Youth Services Librarian at Fort Knox in KY so eight and a half years total in MWR Libraries.

What do you spend most of your day doing in the Library?
A lot of behind-the-scenes work! Some of my favorite things are collection development (selecting and ordering all the new materials we get, program development and marketing, coming up with creative new ideas to improve our facility and services, and collaborating with other MWR programs on the large-scale community wide events!

What is the best part about working in the Library?
The most rewarding part of working in the library is seeing our services, collection, and programs positively impact our patrons’ lives. I particularly love seeing how our early literacy programs like Themed-Story Tuesday and Fun Music Friday build up smart and strong children that are ready to excel in school.

How do you choose to build teamwork?
Showing appreciation to everyone and recognizing the excellent hard work we do together as a team! Also… food.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?
I have a few depending on the day but “Freaks & Geeks” by Oliver Tree, “Burning Man” by Dierks Bentley, and “Stand Out” by Tevin Campbell from the Goofy Movie are all staples.

How Long have you worked at Duke Memorial Library?
I have been working at the Humphreys Library for about 6 years and at other MWR Libraries for about 18 years.

What do you spend most of your day doing in the Library?
I spend most of my time doing administrative work in my office. However, I’m ready to go wherever help is needed in the library.

What is the best part about working in the Library?
The best part is not only admin work, but also working in tech services, Hangul-Nori program, and library decorations and event activity installation.

How do you choose to build teamwork?
I have conversations a lot to get closer to my team members as well as getting nice ideas for team goals.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?
“Happy” by Pharrel Williams. I want my family, friends, and colleagues to all be happy😁

What do you spend most of your day doing in the Library?
I spend most of my day helping customers, checking in and out books and planning our weekly event Fun Music Friday.

What is the best part about working in the Library?
I love the ability to be creative with ideas to improve the library like new events, displays, etc. I also love working with my coworkers, they’ve taught me a lot in terms of their language and culture.

How do you choose to build teamwork?
I think working with each other on group projects and events helps build strong and close bonds with each other.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?
It changes all the time, but lately I’ve been watching Japanese anime and there’s a show about an ice skater called “Yuri on Ice!!!” The theme song is called “History Maker” by Dean Fujioka. Other songs: "Express Yourself" by Madonna and “I Won’t Back Down” by Tom Pety.
How Long have you worked at Duke Memorial Library?
It will be 2 years on May 5.

What do you spend most of your day doing in the Library?
This really depends on the day. If I'm not busy planning and preparing for programs like Themed-Story Tuesday, Tinkering Toddlers, Getting Lit, volunteer and outreach programs, I help out at the circulation desk and Envisionware (the computer lab area. As well as helping shelving books and cataloging new items and dele􀀁ng old.

What is the best part about working in the Library?
I love that I'm always surrounded by books, old and new. As well as sharing the joy of reading and being able to recommend and help our patrons find new ones.

How do you choose to build teamwork?
I believe the most important thing is communication: Being able to express one's opinions and listening to others then coming up with an understanding. This can be carried out in a small meeting a one-on-one or a teamwork setting.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?
"I'll Be There" by Mariah Carey
How Long have you worked at Duke Memorial Library?
I have been working in MWR Libraries for 21 years: 3 years for Camp Casey and Camp Hovey and Camp Humphreys since March 2006.

What do you spend most of your day doing in the Library?
I’m the main cataloger for Adult and Young Adult. Once getting new items, I sort it into four age groups and share with my cataloging team before processing in Sierra.

What is the best part about working in the Library?
Circulation of happiness. We work for customers through lots of programs, events and updating items. I think it can make them happy with satisfaction and it brings positive feedback that can make us be fruitful.

How do you choose to build teamwork?
To me, the word ‘teamwork’ means ‘together’ and ‘trust.’ Go together and trust each other for every single thing in work.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin
How Long have you worked at Duke Memorial Library?
I’ve been working almost 6 years at Camp Humphreys Library. I will work at the library forever until I die (if I can).

What do you spend most of your day doing in the Library?
I spend most of my time handling customer purchase suggestions, finding decoration items, books, anything the Library needs and connecting with vendors to purchase. I also plan and prepare programs, support the circulation desk, and serve as backup for coordinating volunteers.

What is the best part about working in the Library?
I have been leading Fun Music Friday for about 5 years. I like kids learning and enjoying it, so I try to keep improving. I am really impressed by the little babies when they first attend and how they grow up. As I became a mom, I totally changed my perspective about the kid's program. I can see what they really need at each age, so I try to reflect that in the programs. I can also practice with my baby😊 So, I can say the best part about working in the library is every Friday during Fun Music Friday!

How do you choose to build teamwork?
The most important part of building teamwork is communication, I think. We have half US staff and half KN staff. We really need to communicate and break the language, and cultural barriers. So, I try to communicate with US staff and talk about my life. Then we can easily understand each other and decrease misunderstanding.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?
“Sweet but Psycho” by Ava Max. Literally sweet and psycho represent my personality. I am usually sweet to people, but my psycho part comes out when I am stressed out. So, to maintain my sweetness, don’t scare me and I won’t hurt you.
How Long have you worked at Duke Memorial Library?
I have worked in MWR Libraries for 13 years and have been working at the Humphreys Library for over 3 years now.

What do you spend most of your day doing in the Library?
I catalog all the babies’ picture books and children’s books in the cataloging system.
We add approximately 2,500 to 3,000 new books a year so that customers can borrow a
variety of books.

What is the best part about working in the Library?
I like my cataloging work, but I also like the Fun Music Friday class that is held every Friday. Our Fun Music team has good teamwork, and it is a lot of fun. At the Humphreys Library in 2022 and 2023, the Fun Music team prepared a Zumba dance and had fun dancing with the many guests who attended. Do you remember? ~^^

How do you choose to build teamwork?
We work together by helping each other and talking. And I like to cook food, so I cook it and share it with my Library team members.

“Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lot.

I spend time at the circulation desk for most of my day. There is a lot of work at the circulation desk but I’m responsible for checking out books and making more items available to customers.

What is the best part about working in the Library?
The library can give children hope and dreams with books. I read for Themed-Story Tuesday where I feel happiness and pureness. It is the best thing being able to feel this at work. I am lucky.

How do you choose to build teamwork?
At first, I go with coworkers. Second, I say hello and ask how do you feel? Third, if my coworkers look like they are having a hard time, I help them.

What is the best part about working in the Library?
I enjoy working at the circulation desk assisting customers with locating materials that they need. I also enjoy working with my coworkers.

How do you choose to build teamwork?
I believe that good teamwork needs communication and listening. Also, offering encouragement goes a long way with building trust and quality team members.
